Adelphi University

Adelphi_UniversityAdelphi University is a private university in New York. With centers in Garden City, Manhattan, Hudson Valley, and Suffolk County, Adelphi is the oldest educational institution on Long Island. Founded in 1896, the university’s main Garden City location sits on a 75- acre campus about 45 minutes from New York City.  Considered a “best buy” in higher education, the university offers an array of online and on-campus degree programs. With just over 5,000 students, the student body represents over 38 states and 46 countries.

For all Bachelor of Science programs, students must have 50 credits within their major field of study. In order to graduate, students must successfully complete 120 credits with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5. No more than 60 credits can be applied for transfer students.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Services Administration was designed by experts and leaders in the field. This program was designed for students wishing to advance in fields related to public safety: Emergency Medical Services, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, Disaster Preparedness and Management, Fire Service, and Security. This program will be of value for current and former EMT’s, Firefighters, Police Officers, Paramedics, and any other public safety professionals. Individuals with prior work experience can receive credit for “prior learning” or experience in the field. Up to 60 credits can be applied to the 120 credit program. These credits can be awarded for things like EMT or Paramedics certification, fire academy training, military training, or police academy course work. This program can be completed completely online or through a mix of online and in- person courses.

Focusing on justice and effectiveness, issues of law, social control, crime, and delinquency, Criminal Justice focuses on thinking analytically and acting compassionately. The online B.S. in Criminal Justice offers two different concentrations: Social Science and Police Science. The Social Science program is a more liberal arts based approach, incorporating sociology, psychology, political science, and anthropology. This track specializes in criminal justice theory and practice, law and social inequality, juvenile delinquency, and forensics. The Police Science track is made for returning adult students. This track focuses on law enforcement, community relations, and police administration.

The B.S. in Natural Sciences degree program is for students wishing go into medical and science- related professions: medical professional, science education, medical laboratory technician, and medical researcher. This is a great degree program for those wishing to prepare to advance their medical knowledge through further education. This degree program often leads to graduate degrees in medicine, public health, science, and science education.

The B.S. in Business degree program is a hybrid degree, meaning it’s taught partially online and partially on campus in Long Island. This program covers the basics of accounting, business ethics, finance, international business, management, marketing, and organizational behavior. Students learn management theory and practice. Students will learn about today’s technology-driven marketplace and will gain a well rounded skill set and knowledge base.
