UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education department at the University of California Berkeley. The program offers over 2,000 courses and over 70 certification programs, most of which are online. UC Berkeley Extension also has physical campus locations throughout the Bay Area: Berkeley, San Francisco, and Belmont. All courses are open to the general public.

UC Berkeley Extension offers numerous courses in a variety of fields: Art and Design; Behavioral Health Sciences; Business; Construction and Environment Management; Education; Humanities and Languages; Sciences, Mathematics and Biotechnology; Technology and Information Management; and Writing, Editing and Technical Communication. While the program does not offer specific degree programs for undergraduate or graduate students, it does offer several certification programs. All courses are easily transferable to UC Berkeley’s degree programs or another outside institution.

There are two types of online courses offered through UC Berkeley Extension. There’s continuous enrollment, allowing students to enroll in a course any time throughout the year and tailor the course’s schedule with your professor. Or, there are fixed-date courses, with set start and completion dates, requiring students to complete all coursework according to an established schedule.

Golden Gate University was founded in San Francisco in 1901. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Accounting, Business and Management, Finance, Financial Planning, Human Resources, IT Management, International Business, Marketing and Public Relations, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Public Administration, and Taxation. The university has locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, and the Silicon Valley and is Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, American Bar Association, The State Bar of California, and Association of American Law Schools.

GGU offers three different types of online learning options: Online, Mixed Mode, and Web Enhanced. Online courses are courses that require no classroom meetings. Students can do their entire degree from their computer. Mixed Mode combines online content with in-person classroom sessions. WebEnhanced are traditional courses held in classroom settings, but use the Internet to facilitate activities and delivers some of the content.

There are 619 undergraduate students and 4,441 graduate students. 80% of students are enrolled in degree programs on a part-time basis. The average age of students at GGU is 34.

With a student to faculty ratio of 14:1, courses are set up as virtual seminars. Students interact with each other and with their professors. All quizzes and exams are entirely online, with at least one proctored exam per term. Students will use email, tutorials, and discussion boards to contribute to discussions and engage with material

All programs are highly regarded and are taught by working professionals known for being at the top of their field. The university supports a strong business curriculum and teaches students the best business practices and theories. Students will focus on communication skills, writing abilities, quantitative skills, and critical thinking. Students come away with a liberal arts based degree and a business viewpoint and understanding.

Since 2009, GGU’s Master of Accountancy program has maintained an 89% retention rate and 60% graduation rate.
